Huawei is still pushing forward with new smartphone launches and other launches, despite having all odds stacked against itself. Last year, the company launched the Huawei Mate 30 series, the first smartphones from the company that, as a direct result of U.S. trade sanctions, didn’t ship with Google Mobile Services preloaded. Earlier this year, they followed up with the Huawei P40 series, a trio of smartphones that packed even more bleeding-edge features like 10X optical zoom and 40W wireless charging (in the Pro+ model). We’re expecting the Chinese OEM to unveil the new Huawei Mate 40 series, and rumors suggest that these could come to us as early as next month.
We’ve already seen leaked renders of the Huawei Mate 40 and the Huawei Mate 40 Pro. Huawei has also begun officially teasing the launch of the Mate 40 series. While teasers aren’t usually noteworthy, this teaser indicates that the company still fully intends to persevere despite heavier sanctions on it that threaten to cut off the supply of the flagship HiSilicon Kirin SoC.

According to a report from WinFuture.de citing company-related source, the Mate 40 series could come with the “world’s first and only 5G-capable SoC on a 5nm scale”. This Kirin 5G SoC is also rumored to integrate the 5G modem directly onto the chip. The SoC could be named Kirin 9000, but we’d still wait on more word on this end. The chip is said to have been produced at TSMC before the recent cut-off deadline went into effect, and with reports suggesting that Chinese chipmakers have also distanced themselves from Huawei fearing sanctions, there is a lot riding on the Huawei Mate 40.
The launch of the Mate 40 series is expected around mid-October 2020. How exactly the Chinese OEM goes about selling this smartphone in parts of the world after the effect of the sanction deadline, remains to be seen.
